Series of Seven pieces. Each one of the pieces consists of 21 collected postcards, tied together and altered with mixed media techniques. The 21 postcards, symbolizing 21 grams: "They say a body always loses exactly 21 grams at the moment of death." Could it be that in a simple number is contained something as precious as life?


Each piece is approximately 8" x 6".

Elder Street Gallery hosts “Connections” a benefit for the English Speaking Union Houston Branch - Shakespeare Competition. Artists from 21 countries and 25 US states will be reaching out through art sent on postcards. Opening reception Oct 17, 5-9 pm. Closing Oct 31, 2009.



Mail art was popularized in the '60s by Ray Johnson of the New York Correspondence School, and many contemporary artists use the art form to express themselves. All postcard art created on an existing 4"x6" post card or a 5” X 9” post card. Materials will vary, depending on the technique you choose. Artists create with any technique, and all media, including collage, markers, crayons, pen and ink, colored pencils, rubber stamps, tempera, acrylic, watercolor and printmaking.
